Summary

Neonatal kidneys show a reduced response to parathyroid hormone (PTH) due to lower phospholipase A2 (PLA2) activity. This diminished PLA2 activity in neonates, potentially linked to higher annexin 1 levels, explains the blunted response to PTH.
