Background:

Spirituality is a crucial aspect of healthcare for the elderly.
The role of spirituality in the daily lives of elderly women is under-researched.
Quality-of-life studies often overlook the spiritual dimension in this demographic.

Purpose of the Study:

To describe religious well-being and religiosity in rural elderly women.
To identify factors related to religious well-being in this population.
To explore the relationship between religiosity, social support, hope, and well-being.

Main Methods:

Descriptive research design.
Survey of 114 non-institutionalized, rural elderly women (median age 75).
Statistical analysis including correlation and stepwise multiple regression.

Main Results:

Participants exhibited a high level of religious well-being.
Significant positive correlations were found between religious well-being and social support/hope (p < .001).
Hope was the sole significant predictor of religious well-being, explaining 31% of the variance.

Conclusions:

Religious beliefs and activities are highly valued by elderly women and increase in importance with age.
Hope is a critical factor in maintaining religious well-being among older women.
Integrating spiritual assessments and interventions can enhance healthcare for elderly women.
