Summary

Plasma fibrinogen levels are an independent risk factor for coronary artery disease (CAD). Standard coagulation tests and platelet function tests showed no significant differences between CAD patients and controls.

Background:

  • Coronary artery disease (CAD) is a leading cause of mortality worldwide.
  • Hemostatic function and its relation to CAD risk require further elucidation.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate hemostatic function in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD).
  • To identify potential hemostatic risk factors associated with CAD, including myocardial infarction and angina pectoris.

Main Methods:

  • Evaluated bleeding time (BT), prothrombin time (PT), partial thromboplastin time with kaolin (PTTK), thrombin time (TT), platelet count, platelet adhesiveness, microthrombus index, and plasma fibrinogen levels.
  • Compared 30 CAD patients (14 myocardial infarction, 16 angina pectoris) with 20 age- and sex-matched controls.
  • Utilized stepwise logistic regression analysis to identify independent risk factors.

  • No statistically significant differences were observed in platelet adhesiveness or mean microthrombus index between patients and controls.
  • All standard coagulation tests (BT, PT, PTTK, TT) were within normal ranges for both groups.
