Abstract
Background:
The pathophysiology of inflammatory bowel disease remains elusive primarily because of the limitations of the models available for study in the basic science laboratories. We propose a new model for the study of inflammatory bowel disease.
Data Sources:
Research and review articles published in the English literature.
Conclusions:
The human colonic microvascular endothelial cell in culture is a legitimate model for the study of the human colon in the normal and diseased states.
