Summary

A rare orbital hemangiopericytoma was successfully resected using a transcranial approach. This surgical method offers excellent exposure for highly vascular orbital tumors.

  • Hemangiopericytoma is a rare vascular tumor that can occur in the orbit.

Observation:

  • A 43-year-old male presented with right orbital swelling.
  • MRI revealed a round, homogeneously enhancing tumor in the lateral orbit with a flow void.

Findings:

  • The orbital tumor was histologically confirmed as a hemangiopericytoma.
  • Complete tumor resection was achieved via a transcranial and fronto-orbitotemporal approach.
  • Embolization of feeding arteries from the external carotid artery preceded surgery.

Implications:

  • The transcranial and fronto-orbitotemporal approach is effective for managing highly vascular orbital tumors.
  • This surgical strategy provides adequate exposure for complete tumor removal.
  • Successful resection without adjuvant radiation therapy was achieved for this orbital hemangiopericytoma.
