Acquired dynamic left ventricular outflow tract obstruction complicating acute anterior myocardial infarction: serial
Insights
Dynamic outflow obstruction can complicate acute anterior myocardial infarction. Echocardiography indicates this gradient arises from basal hyperkinesis, a response to apical wall motion abnormalities.
Area of Science:
- Cardiology
- Medical Imaging
Background:
- Acute anterior myocardial infarction is a critical cardiac event.
- Dynamic outflow obstruction is a rare complication.
- Understanding its mechanisms is crucial for patient management.
Abstract:
We describe three cases of dynamic outflow obstruction complicating acute anterior myocardial infarction. Serial echocardiography suggests the intraventricular gradient results from basal hyperkinesis, the latter being a reciprocal response to the apical wall motion abnormality.
