Abstract:
Critically ill patients usually exhibit a wide variety of dynamic changes in various organ systems. Several outcome studies show that the presence of a trained, full-time intensivist is associated with a reduction in patient mortality. His experience leads to a decrease in otherwise frequently occurring iatrogenic complications. It thus seems beneficial to staff the intensive care unit with trained intensivists.
