    Summary

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy offers a quick and effective treatment for postbronchitic emphysema, improving gas exchange and organ function. It can also help delay disease progression when combined with other therapies.

    Area of Science:

    • Pulmonary Medicine
    • Hyperbaric Medicine

    Context:

    • Postbronchitic emphysema presents significant challenges due to respiratory insufficiency and multi-organ sequelae.
    • Existing treatments may not fully address the complex physiological alterations in emphysema.

    Purpose:

    • To describe a personal method of hyperbaric oxygen therapy for postbronchitic emphysema.
    • To evaluate the efficacy of this therapy on respiratory function and systemic sequelae in 50 patients.

    Summary:

    • A novel hyperbaric oxygen therapy protocol was applied to 50 patients with postbronchitic emphysema.
    • Patients underwent comprehensive assessments of respiratory, cardiac, hepatic, neurological, and renal functions.
    • Results demonstrated significant improvements in gas exchange (haematosis) and amelioration of organ-specific sequelae.

    Impact:

    • Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is proposed as a primary treatment for rapidly resolving haematosis alterations and organic sequelae in emphysema.
    • This therapy, when adjunct to conventional treatments, shows potential in halting or delaying disease advancement.
