Area of Science:

  • Oncology
  • Radiology
  • Surgical Pathology

Background:

  • Splenic metastases are uncommon findings in cancer patients.
  • Isolated splenic metastases are particularly rare, posing diagnostic challenges.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To analyze clinical characteristics of isolated splenic metastases.
  • To determine diagnostic indicators and optimal management strategies for splenic metastases.

Main Methods:

  • Retrospective analysis of five cases with isolated splenic metastases.
  • Review of primary tumor type, sonographic findings, clinical presentation, and treatment outcomes.
  • Ultrasonography utilized for metastasis detection.

Main Results:

Related Experiment Videos

  • All five cases detected via ultrasonography.
  • Primary tumors identified as colonic cancer (4 cases) and renal cancer (1 case).
  • All patients underwent successful splenectomy with uneventful postoperative courses.
  • Conclusions:

    • Ultrasonography is effective in detecting splenic metastases.
    • Splenic metastases should be considered in patients with known colon or renal cancer.
    • Preoperative and follow-up evaluations require specific attention to the spleen in at-risk patients.
