    Area of Science:

    • Urology
    • Pharmacology

    Context:

    • Benign prostate hyperplasia (BPH) is a common condition in aging men.
    • Conservative treatment options are sought to manage BPH symptoms and improve quality of life.

    Purpose:

    • To evaluate the efficacy of Finasteride in treating benign prostate hyperplasia.
    • To assess changes in subjective complaints, urinary flow, residual urine, and prostate volume.

    Summary:

    • Sixteen patients with BPH received Finasteride treatment.
    • Follow-up assessments included the International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS), uroflowmetry, residual urine measurement, and echography.
    • Positive outcomes were observed in 78% of patients, with a 3.2 ml/sec increase in maximal urinary flow and a 24.5% reduction in prostate volume.

    Impact:

    • Finasteride demonstrates significant efficacy in improving urinary function and reducing prostate size in BPH patients.
    • Alleviation of subjective symptoms was noted in 69% of patients, highlighting its therapeutic value.
    • This study supports Finasteride as a viable conservative treatment for benign prostate hyperplasia.
