Area of Science:

  • Neuroscience
  • Radiology
  • Neurosurgery

Background:

  • Arachnoid cysts are common, benign, cerebrospinal fluid (CSF)-filled sacs within the arachnoid mater.
  • Typically, these cysts occur in predictable locations such as the middle cranial fossa, suprasellar, and quadrigeminal cisterns.

Observation:

  • The case presented an incidental finding of multiple arachnoid cysts.
  • These cysts were exceptionally located in five different intracranial regions simultaneously.

Findings:

  • The identified cysts included two in the middle cranial fossae.
  • Additional cysts were found in the retroclival region, quadrigeminal cistern, and on the cerebral convexity.

Implications:

  • This case underscores the potential for arachnoid cysts to manifest in unusual combinations and locations.

Related Experiment Videos

  • Understanding rare presentations is crucial for accurate diagnosis and surgical planning in neurosurgery.
  • The incidental nature of the discovery emphasizes the importance of thorough radiological assessment.
