Abstract:
A pregnant patient with symptomatic sickle cell anemia is presented, and the rationale and technic of management by partial exchange transfusion near term is discussed. Observations concerning the comparative safety of the protocol are made, and suggestions offered for a more widespread adoption of this plan. The outcome for mother and baby was good.
