Urinary tract infection in adult women: morbidity without mortality

This condensed paper deals with that relatively common malady, urinary tract infection in the adult female, from a practical point of view. It serves to emphasise that the great majority of these infections cause distressing morbidity, but little serious renal impairment or mortality. It indicates how the natural history of these infections may be studied to select the minority with serious infection. It stresses the aetiology of urinary tract infection, and thereby indicates a practical management.
