Background:

Observation:

  • Recent advancements in parathyroid scintigraphy demonstrate high sensitivity (up to 95%) for parathyroid adenomas.
  • The study successfully localized ectopic parathyroid adenomas and hyperplasia in seven patients using scintigraphy, confirmed surgically.

Findings:

  • Six patients with prior unsuccessful surgeries benefited from accurate preoperative localization, potentially avoiding multiple operations.
  • A mediastinal parathyroid adenoma in a pregnant patient was precisely located, enabling successful sternotomy and avoiding unnecessary neck exploration.
