Abstract:
The authors describe the side-effects and complications occurring in the oral cavity during the irradiation treatment of head and neck tumours. They stress the necessity of dental therapy before, during and after irradiation so that occasional subsequent grave complications (for instance osteoradionecrosis) could be prevented. They emphasize the importance of basic radiological knowledge of dental surgeons and dentists and their cooperation with the irradiation therapists.
