Summary

Urinary symptoms are highly prevalent in multiple sclerosis (MS) patients, affecting over 80%. This study highlights the correlation between neurological involvement, functional disability, and urinary dysfunction in MS.

Context:

Urinary and sexual dysfunction are common in multiple sclerosis (MS) but understudied.
This research addresses the prevalence and characteristics of these symptoms in a national cohort.

Purpose:

To prospectively evaluate the presence and nature of urinary and sexual symptoms in 77 patients with MS.
To assess neurological involvement, functional disability, and bladder function using urodynamic studies.

Summary:

Urinary symptoms were observed in 81.8% of MS patients, predominantly mixed syndrome (52%).
Males exhibited greater neurological and functional disability, alongside higher urinary symptom frequency (91%).
Detrusor hyperreflexia (60%) was the most frequent urodynamic finding; infectious complications were infrequent (14.28%).
