Background:

  • Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) is a complex mental health condition.
  • Understanding the neurobiological underpinnings of MDD is crucial for effective treatment.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To compare regional cerebral blood flow (rCBF) between patients with MDD and healthy controls.
  • To investigate the relationship between rCBF and depressive symptoms (DS) and negative symptoms (NS) in MDD patients.

Main Methods:

  • SPECT scans using 99mTc-HMPAO were performed on 11 MDD patients and 15 healthy controls.
  • Patients completed the Scale for the Assessment of Negative Symptoms (SANS) and a modified Hamilton Rating Scale for Depression (HRSD-DS).
