Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the efficacy of oxyfedrine (OXF) as a post-treatment for myocardial stunning.
  • To evaluate the impact of OXF on hemodynamic and metabolic parameters during myocardial reperfusion.

Main Methods:

  • A canine model of myocardial stunning was established.
  • Oxyfedrine (1 mg/kg) or saline was administered immediately before reperfusion.
  • Hemodynamic parameters (MAP, LV peak (+) dP/dt, LVEDP) and myocardial ATP levels were monitored.

Main Results:

  • Saline-treated control animals exhibited typical signs of myocardial stunning, including hemodynamic deterioration and impaired ATP regeneration.
  • Oxyfedrine administration significantly prevented the fall in mean arterial pressure (MAP) and LV peak positive dP/dt.
  • OXF also mitigated the rise in left ventricular end-diastolic pressure (LVEDP) and promoted better myocardial ATP recovery.

  • Oxyfedrine administered just before reperfusion is effective in preventing myocardial stunning in a canine model.
  • OXF mitigates both the hemodynamic and metabolic disturbances associated with myocardial stunning.
  • These findings suggest a potential therapeutic role for oxyfedrine in managing myocardial stunning.
