Summary

This study presents two cases of bilateral orthotopic ureterocele, treated with a transverse incision. While effective, it carries a risk of vesicoureteral reflux.

Background:

  • Bilateral orthotopic ureterocele is a rare congenital anomaly.
  • Symptomatic cases require effective management to prevent complications.

Observation:

  • Two cases of bilateral orthotopic ureterocele in a 70-year-old male and a 56-year-old female are described.
  • Intravenous pyelography (IVP) was used for diagnosis.
  • A bilateral transverse "smile" incision was performed for treatment.

Findings:

  • The transverse incision yielded good functional results in both patients.
  • One patient developed unilateral grade II-III vesicoureteral reflux, associated with ureteral calculi.
  • The transurethral transverse incision is a viable treatment for symptomatic bilateral orthotopic ureterocele.

Implications:

  • This surgical approach offers a good functional outcome for bilateral orthotopic ureterocele.
  • Clinicians should be aware of the potential risk of vesicoureteral reflux post-operatively.
  • Further monitoring is essential in patients treated with this method.
