[Perinatal problems and the prevention of premature labor]
Insights
This study analyzes perinatal mortality rates in premature infants, comparing recent data with 1989 and international benchmarks. It discusses prevention strategies for preterm birth and neonatal complications in very low birthweight infants.
Area of Science:
- Perinatal Medicine
- Neonatology
- Public Health
Background:
- Perinatal mortality rates in premature infants are a significant global health concern.
- Understanding trends in prematurity and associated mortality is crucial for improving outcomes.
- International comparisons highlight disparities and potential areas for intervention.
Purpose of the Study:
- To analyze key indices of perinatal mortality in premature infants.
- To compare recent data with historical (1989) and international (Europe, North America) benchmarks.
- To discuss trends and contemporary prevention strategies for preterm birth and neonatal morbidity.
Main Methods:
- Comparative analysis of perinatal mortality and prematurity indices.
- Review of prenatal and intranatal prevention strategies.
- Description of neonatal morbidity in very low birthweight infants and current prevention methods.
Main Results:
- Analysis of principal indices related to perinatal mortality in premature infants.
- Comparison of recent trends with 1989 data and international indices.
- Identification of common neonatal morbidities in very low birthweight infants.
Conclusions:
- Effective prenatal and intranatal prevention strategies are essential for reducing premature delivery complications.
- Contemporary methods offer improved prevention possibilities for neonatal morbidity in very low birthweight infants.
- Continued monitoring and international collaboration are vital for addressing premature infant mortality.
Abstract:
An analysis of the principal indices, associated with the perinatal mortality rate of premature infants and the level of prematurity during the last 3 years, compared with those of 1989 and the similar indices in the developed countries of Europe and North America is presented. The main trends in prenatal and intranatal prevention of the premature delivery and the complications associated with it are discussed. The most common neonatal morbidity of the premature infants with very low birthweight and the contemporary possibilities of prevention are described.
