    Abstract:

    A simple method has been developed for the preparation of 3H-labelled bilirubin IX-alpha from bilirubin dimethyl ester. The label is located in the propionic acid side chains, and there is no isomerization of the bilirubin during the preparation.

    Jaundice, or icterus, is the yellow discoloration of the skin, sclerae, and mucous membranes. It happens when plasma bilirubin levels rise above 2.5-3 mg/dL, leading to bilirubin deposition in tissue.Bilirubin is a byproduct of hemoglobin degradation.
