Summary

Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and corticosteroid use negatively impact body composition, specifically reducing fat-free mass and bone mineral density (BMD) in women. Disease severity and steroid exposure are key factors affecting SLE patients' body composition.

Background:

  • Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a chronic autoimmune disease affecting multiple organ systems.
