Abstract:
Several studies [5,6] on the prevalence of psychiatric disorders among migrants describe a higher rate of schizophrenic disorders. Other studies [2,3] as well as DSM-IV [1] point out that affective disorders with psychotic symptoms can be misdiagnosed as schizophrenic or schizoaffective disorders. We report on a patient admitted with the diagnosis of paranoid schizophrenia (ICD-10: F20.0), discussing differential diagnostic criteria and the problems of diagnosing along ICD-10 criteria.
