Background:

  • Concurrent occurrence of multiple thyroid carcinomas is exceptionally rare.

Observation:

  • Case 1: A 51-year-old male with concurrent medullary carcinoma (right lobe) and a biphasic medullary-papillary carcinoma (left lobe).
  • Case 2: A female patient with occult papillary carcinoma (right lobe) and a medullary-papillary carcinoma, follicular variant (left lobe).

Findings:

  • The left-lobe tumor in Case 1 showed distinct medullary and papillary components, with metastasis to mediastinal lymph nodes and tissues.
  • Immunohistochemistry revealed two distinct tumor cell clones in Case 1, responding to calcitonin and thyroglobulin antibodies respectively.
