[Hepatic amebiasis: an unusual clinical presentation]

Background:

Hepatic amebiasis commonly presents with fever and painful liver enlargement.
Atypical presentations can mimic other conditions, such as renal sepsis, complicating diagnosis.

Observation:

A case of an 18-year-old woman presenting with symptoms suggestive of pyelonephritis was investigated.
Normal urinalysis and ultrasound findings prompted a CT scan, revealing a large liver abscess.
Serological testing confirmed hepatic amebiasis.

Findings:

The patient's presentation mimicked renal sepsis, highlighting atypical signs of hepatic amebiasis.
A voluminous 10-cm liver abscess was identified via CT scan.
Diagnosis was confirmed by positive amebiasis serology.
