[Medical care for the wounded in armies of ancient Greece]

Discussions of medical treatment in ancient armies usually focus on the medical services in the Imperial Roman army--not least for the reason that we have far more evidence regarding Roman armies than we have for medical treatment in the armies of ancient Greece. It is, however, possible to cull some information from brief remarks scattered throughout Greek literature, medical as well as non-medical. Based on these, it appears possible to confirm that most, if not all, Greek armies would have had several doctors available for the treatment not only of the leaders, but also of the officers and common soldiers.
