Idiopathic progressive hyalinizing and calcifying CNS vasculopathy

Summary

A rare calcifying vasculopathy caused progressive neurologic deficits in a female adolescent over 7 years. Imaging revealed a growing lesion and brain abnormalities, leading to severe deficits.

Serial neuroimaging demonstrated a calcifying lesion with increasing enhancement and widespread signal abnormalities.
Hemispheric volume loss was noted on serial imaging studies.

Stereotactic biopsies identified a hyalinizing and calcifying vasculopathy affecting penetrating cerebral vessels.
The vasculopathy was characterized by calcification and hyalinization of small blood vessels.
