Summary

This study presents a new approximate analytic expression for colloidal particle surface charge and potential. This model offers improved accuracy for small kappaa values in mixed electrolytes.

Background:

Understanding the surface charge density/surface potential relationship is crucial for colloidal systems.
Existing models often have limitations in applicability for small kappaa values.

Purpose of the Study:

To derive an approximate analytic expression for the surface charge density/surface potential relationship.
To analyze the applicability of this expression for spherical colloidal particles in mixed and nonsymmetrical electrolytes.

Main Methods:

Solving the nonlinear Poisson-Boltzmann equation.
Utilizing a linearization approximation.
Fitting the derived expression to experimental or simulation data.

An approximate analytic expression for sigma/psi0 was obtained.
The expression shows good accuracy for large kappaa.
Applicable for small kappaa (>/= 0.03) with low error (<5.0%) up to 334 mV.

The new approximate analytic expression is more broadly applicable than previous models, especially for small kappaa.
The expression features a simple structure, facilitating analysis.
This work advances the understanding of electrical double layers in colloidal systems.
