Ethnicity, forced migration and psychosocial work in Croatia
Abstract:
This article outlines the development of psycho-social work with refugees and displaced persons in Croatia, in the context of war and large-scale forced migration. The article, which is based upon original research on refugees and displaced persons in Croatia, considers the dominance of ethnicized nationalism within Croatia, examines the role of global agencies and how psychosocial programmes influence aspects of ethnicity. It ends with some recommendations for the development of an anti-nationalistic psychosocial work approach in complex emergencies and wider forms of intervention.
