    Background:

    • Closing volume (CV) is a measure of lung emptying.
    • Assessing CV is crucial for understanding airway function.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To compare two techniques for measuring closing volume: the resident gas technique and the bolus technique.
    • To investigate the effect of inspired volume (Vi) on CV measurements.
    • To determine if age influences CV measurements, particularly with the bolus technique.

    Main Methods:

    • CV was measured in healthy seated subjects (ages 22-70) using both resident gas and bolus techniques.
    • Subjects inspired varying volumes (20-100% vital capacity) from residual volume.
