Sus antecedentes:

Una startup tecnológica, Planetary Technologies, inició un experimento marino en la bahía de St. Ives.
El experimento consistió en agregar hidróxido de magnesio a las aguas residuales y liberarlo en alta mar.
Los miembros de la comunidad expresaron su indignación al enterarse del experimento y de una liberación previa de prueba.

Objetivo del estudio:

Evaluar el impacto ambiental de la liberación de hidróxido de magnesio en un ecosistema marino.
Comprender las percepciones y preocupaciones de la comunidad con respecto a las nuevas tecnologías de geoingeniería marina.
Evaluar la viabilidad y la aceptación pública de la dispersión química en alta mar para la remediación del medio ambiente.

Principales métodos:

Liberación controlada de hidróxido de magnesio en la bahía de St. Ives.
Compromiso comunitario y seguimiento de la respuesta.
Observación de la vida marina, incluidos cangrejos, focas y langostas, en las proximidades de la liberación.

Principales resultados:

Protesta significativa de la comunidad y preocupación por los riesgos ecológicos potenciales.
La liberación inicial de hidróxido de magnesio se produjo en septiembre de 2022.
Más de 300 manifestantes se reunieron en abril de 2023, destacando las preocupaciones ecológicas.

Conclusiones:
