Background:

Female sterility is often linked to tubal disease.
Hysterosalpingography with selective salpingography is a recognized diagnostic and therapeutic method.

Purpose of the Study:

To evaluate the efficacy and safety of hysterosalpingography with selective salpingography in treating proximal tubal obstruction.
To assess pregnancy rates and complication incidence in patients with unilateral or bilateral proximal tubal disease.

Main Methods:

The study involved 302 patients with proximal tubal disease (187 unilateral, 115 bilateral).
Selective salpingography was performed to diagnose and treat tubal obstructions.
Follow-up included assessing pregnancy outcomes and tubal patency.

Main Results:

Catheterization of obstructed tubes was successful in approximately 94% of cases.
Spontaneous pregnancy occurred in 10% of patients; artificial insemination was performed in 15%.
A 12-month follow-up revealed new proximal tubal obstruction in about 60% of cases, with 2% experiencing extrauterine pregnancy. No severe complications were noted.

Conclusions:

Hysterosalpingography with selective salpingography is a highly successful technique for treating proximal tubal obstruction.
While effective, the procedure carries risks of re-obstruction and ectopic pregnancy, necessitating careful patient selection and monitoring.
