View from the boardroom. Interview by Sarah F. Zarbock

When it comes to home care agencies and their boards of directors, I've sat in both chairs. As a physician assistant (PA), I provided home care directly when I worked for a multispecialty physician practice and helped start its house call program. In that position, I worked closely with several area home care agencies and developed collaborative relationships with nursing colleagues. More recently, as a concerned consumer and advocate for home care, I have been a member of the board of directors of a small, nonprofit home care agency in the rural town in which I live. Having had both perspectives has helped me considerably to know the players, their roles, their shared history, and their current concerns.
