Summary

Absorbable rigid fixation using polylactic acid-polyglycolic acid copolymer plates and screws effectively treated maxillofacial trauma. These implants provided stable fixation for bone healing and were absorbed without complications.

Background:

Observation:

  • Four patients with maxillofacial trauma received open reduction and internal fixation with absorbable polylactic acid-polyglycolic acid copolymer plates and screws.
  • Coronal computed tomographic (CT) scans were used for pre- and post-operative assessment.
  • Clinical follow-up was conducted to evaluate outcomes.

Findings:

  • CT scans at 6 months post-repair demonstrated adequate fracture reduction and osseous healing.
