Abstract
Objective:
To evaluate the clinical effect of a new surgical procedure to reconstruct socket with sclera-encapsulated hydroxyapatite after enucleation and evisceration.
Methods:
Hydroxyapatite spheres were implanted primarily into auto-sclera capsule in 41 cases. Secondary implantation was performed with heterosclera-encapsulated ones in 9 cases.
Results:
No inflammation, implant extrusion and implant dislocation occurred in 7-23 months (mean = 15.6 months) of follow-up.
Conclusion:
Satisfactory prothetic motility was obtained in all cases.
