[Laparoscopic nephropexy for symptomatic nephroptosis: a case report]

Background:

• Symptomatic nephroptosis, characterized by significant kidney descent, can cause pain and hydronephrosis.

Observation:

• A 32-year-old female presented with symptomatic nephroptosis, showing 2.5 vertebral body renal descent with hydronephrosis on excretory urography.
• The patient underwent laparoscopic transperitoneal nephropexy.

Findings:

• Postoperative imaging demonstrated reduced renal descent to 1 vertebral body.
• Hydronephrosis resolved, and the patient remained asymptomatic at 1-year follow-up.
• The procedure utilized nonabsorbable sutures, polyglactin net, hernial staplers, and tissue adhesive.

Implications:

• Laparoscopic nephropexy is a safe and effective treatment for symptomatic nephroptosis.
• This approach offers minimal morbidity and excellent long-term outcomes.
• It represents a valuable surgical option for managing kidney ptosis.
