    Area of Science:

    • Hematology
    • Oncology

    Background:

    • Bone marrow necrosis (BMN) is a rare condition.
    • It is often associated with neoplastic processes.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To review clinical findings of BMN in 13 patients.
    • To compare findings with existing literature.

    Main Methods:

    • Retrospective review of 13 patients with BMN.
    • Clinical data analysis and literature comparison.

    Main Results:

    • BMN was associated with neoplastic disease in all non-sickle cell cases.
    • Myeloproliferative disorders, metastatic carcinoma, and lymphoma were identified.
    • Severe bone pain was the primary symptom (85%).
    • Complications included marrow/fat emboli, hypercalcemia, and cytopenias.
    • Prognosis was poor (median survival <1 month).
    • One patient showed healing after chemotherapy.

    Conclusions:

    • BMN in adults is strongly linked to malignancy.
    • Bone pain is a key indicator.
    • Prognosis is poor, but treatment may induce healing.
