Summary

Laser trabeculoplasty did not prevent increased intraocular pressure from steroid eye drops in myopic patients who had radial keratotomy. This suggests alternative strategies are needed to manage steroid-induced ocular hypertension in this population.

Background:

  • Radial keratotomy is a refractive surgery for myopia.
  • Steroid eye drops are commonly used post-surgery.
  • Steroids can increase intraocular pressure (IOP), a risk factor for glaucoma.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To determine if laser trabeculoplasty affects steroid-induced IOP elevation.
  • To assess IOP response in myopic patients after radial keratotomy and dexamethasone treatment.

Main Methods:

  • Diode laser trabeculoplasty was performed on 94 myopic patients undergoing radial keratotomy.
  • Patients received dexamethasone eye drops post-procedure.
  • Intraocular pressure was measured using applanation tonometry, adjusted for corneal flattening.
