Abstract:
Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is a new treatment modality for cancer based on the interaction of light and a photosensitizing agent located in the tumour, resulting in cell death. The mechanism of action of PDT and clinical applications in therapy of lung cancer are discussed. The most encouraging results have been obtained in patients with early stage lung cancer. Therapeutical improvement in this field may also result from advances in technology and use of new photosensitizers.
