Background:

  • CD44 is a key cell surface receptor for hyaluronate, a major extracellular matrix component.
  • CD44 functions as a cell adhesion molecule and is abundant in the skin.
  • Previous studies showed hyaluronate accumulation upon CD44 suppression in mouse keratinocytes.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the role of CD44 and hyaluronate in lichen sclerosus et atrophicus (LS&A).
  • To examine hyaluronate accumulation and CD44 expression in LS&A skin lesions.
  • To compare CD44 expression in LS&A with other skin conditions.
