This study shares experience with radical prostatectomy for localized prostate cancer. A modified bladder-neck technique achieved excellent continence preservation in most patients, with full recovery in four out of five cases.

Area of Science:

  • Urology
  • Surgical Oncology

Background:

  • Radical prostatectomy is a primary treatment for localized prostate carcinoma.
  • Urinary incontinence is a common postoperative complication affecting quality of life.

Observation:

  • A modified technique for bladder-neck reconstruction was employed in five patients undergoing radical prostatectomy.
  • The technique aims to enhance continence preservation post-surgery.

Findings:

  • Four out of five patients achieved full urinary continence recovery within three months without medication.
  • One patient experienced stress incontinence managed with medication, maintaining urine passage for 3-3.5 hours.

Implications:

  • The modified bladder-neck technique shows promise for improving postoperative continence after radical prostatectomy.
