Area of Science:

  • Dentistry
  • Cariology
  • Preventive Dentistry

Background:

  • Dental caries remains a significant public health concern, particularly in adult populations.
  • Refractory cases of dental caries pose challenges to conventional treatment modalities.
  • Effective caries control strategies are crucial for long-term oral health maintenance.

Observation:

  • A case study involving an adult patient with dentin caries refractory to standard treatments.
  • Treatment involved repeated in-clinic applications of 5% fluoride varnish every three months.
  • Home care included daily two-minute rinses with sodium fluoride.

Findings:

  • Over a five-year period, none of the initial dentin lesions required restoration.
  • Clinical examinations and bitewing radiographs indicated inactive interproximal decay.
