Unlabelled:
The prevalence of diabetes is increasing. These patients are at greater risk of developing ischemic heart disease. Many have symptoms that cannot be adequately managed through pharmacological treatment. Coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) has shown good effects on survival and quality of life in ischemic heart disease. However, studies on diabetics have been few. Sub-group analyses and observational studies provide indirect support for the contention that CABG increases survival and improves quality of life even among diabetics. When diabetes and multivessel disease coexist, CABG offers advantages as compared with percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty (PTCA).
Conclusion:
CABG increases survival and improves quality of life among diabetics with symptoms of ischemic heart disease.
