Abstract:
We describe a new HLA-B null allele found in a daughter and her mother. This null allele was due to a mutation at position 41 of exon 1 which resulted in a premature stop codon. This new null allele was officially named HLA-B*1817N*.

Genome-wide association studies or GWAS are used to identify whether common SNPs are associated with certain diseases. Suppose specific SNPs are more frequently observed in individuals with a particular disease than those without the disease. In that case, those SNPs are said to be associated with the disease.
