Background:

Observation:

  • A 15-year experience with 6 splenic abscess cases is presented.
  • Ultrasonography was diagnostic in all cases.
  • Only one patient was successfully treated with percutaneous drainage; five required splenectomy.

Findings:

  • Percutaneous drainage is a cost-effective technique with a high success rate.
  • Despite advancements, splenectomy is often necessary due to infrequent ideal conditions for drainage.
