[Presentation of an oncological database adapted for head and neck cancer]
1Abteilung V (HNO), Bundeswehrzentralkrankenhaus Koblenz. Bwzkrhskob5@bundeswehr.org
Background:
By law, oncological databases are required in Germany since 1999. These databases can be used for epidemiological or other scientific studies and quality control.
Methods:
Based on ACCESS software a newly developed database is introduced, which is optimized for head and neck tumor patients. The database acquires epidemiological data, surgical and medical treatment protocols, histological and tumorbiological data, clinical data of speech, swallowing, breathing and general health, and examinations used for tumor staging and clinical outcome.
Results:
Per patient less than 20 minutes are required to fill the data sheets and the data for the national cancer registry can be extracted as a table sheet. This database can also be used for scientific protocols and for multicenter studies.
