Abstract:
Young children under three years are particularly prone to sleep disorders but the sleep patterns of twins have received little attention. This study considered the sleep patterns of 48 pairs of twins (96 children) aged 12-36 months compared with a control group of singleton children. The sleep patterns of twins were broadly similar to those of singletons. As other reports have indicated, the burdens carried by the parents of twins at night were heavier but not markedly so. Possible differences between normal and IVF twins in respect of sleep merit further consideration.
