Centrosome hyperamplification (CH) is common in bladder cancer and linked to chromosomal instability (CIN). High-grade tumors show increased CH and CIN, suggesting CH contributes to CIN development in bladder cancer.

  • Centrosome hyperamplification (CH) is frequently observed in human cancers and may drive CIN.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the relationship between centrosome hyperamplification (CH) and chromosomal instability (CIN) in bladder cancer.
  • To analyze the centrosome replication cycle in relation to tumor grade and CIN.

Main Methods:

  • Examined 22 bladder cancer samples (grades G1-G3) using immunohistochemistry for CH and FISH for CIN.
  • Analyzed centrosome replication cycle using laser scanning cytometry (LSC).

Main Results:

  • 81.8% of bladder cancer cases exhibited CH, with higher grades correlating with tumor histological grade (p=0.03).
