Summary

Branchiogenic carcinoma, a rare neck tumor, was diagnosed in a 41-year-old man. Microscopic examination confirmed squamous cell carcinoma within a branchial cleft cyst, meeting modified diagnostic criteria.

Background:

Branchiogenic carcinoma is an exceptionally rare malignancy arising from remnants of the branchial apparatus.
Accurate diagnosis can be challenging due to complex historical criteria, leading to potential misreporting of cases.

Observation:

A 41-year-old male presented with a painless, fluctuant mass on the right side of his neck.
The mass was surgically excised, and subsequent pathological examination was performed.

Findings:

Microscopic analysis revealed a branchial cleft cyst with an associated squamous cell carcinoma.
The pathological features satisfied the modified diagnostic criteria proposed by Khafif in 1989.
