Objective:
To evaluate the clinical use of transiently evoked otoacoustic emissions (TEOAE) in patients with high-frequency sensorineural hearing loss, comparing the result of TEOAE with audiometry to find the correlation between them.
Method:
Fourteen normal adults and 25 patients with high-frequency hearing-loss were measured with TEOAE25 analyzer system and OB822 audiometer respectively, to compare the changing trend of the two examinations.
Result:
In the domain of 1.5 to approximately 4.5 kHz, there was significant difference of TEOAE between normal cases and hearing-loss cases. The results of TEOAE and audiometry had correlation with each other. The changing trend of the two examinations was accordant.
Conclusion:
Combined with pure tone audiometry, TEOAE could discover the degree and range of high-frequency hearing loss more correctly.
